Walking in another Persons Shoes How It Feels to Be Blind

Table of Contents Introduction How It Feels to Be Blind Conclusion Reference List Introduction Knowing what other people go through in life is easy, because it is matter of listening, reading, watch and sometime witnessing their experiences. Although experiencing other people’s feelings is almost impossible, one can learn and understand what others are going through by trying to ‘walk in their shoes.’ There are so many activities that can bring out this feeling in one, regardless of whether you have certain special abilities or not.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Walking in another Person’s Shoes: How It Feels to Be Blind specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More For instance, trying to understand how it feels to be older becomes a reality gradually one grows older, or to understand how it feels like to be a father, mother, husband, or a wife can only become real when one bears the responsi bilities associated with each. The same case applies to experiencing what individuals who are disabled, for example blind feel. Although states like being blind, homeless, insane, or poor may never happen to many individuals, it is good to understand how individuals in this state feel, in order to be able to associate and treat them with respect. This essay will discuss ways in which one can learn and understand how it feels to be blind. How It Feels to Be Blind The main purpose of walking in someone else’s shoes is building empathy. It should be noted that building empathy depends on the different situations and experiences of the persons who you want to share their experiences. When an individual is blind, such an individual naturally feel a sense of detachment, curiosity, frustration and skepticism, because of the discomforts and challenges, which are associated with their situation. Hence, to be able to experience what these individuals to, it is important to have a sense of involvement and empathy. For example to experience the psychological state of being blind, individuals should try to close their eyes and assume they are blind. After assuming this, they should try to do thing as if they are blind, as this is one of the ways of experiencing the kind of difficulties that blind individuals go through as they try to execute their daily duties. Through this, many can realize that, they have no clues of so many things, more so the intangible ones that need the sense of sight. For instance, explaining to a blind person about different colors and how the sun looks like is very hard. As research studies show, most blind people have visionary experiences when they are awake and asleep, but they do not leave any reference point of perceiving them – there cannot say it looks like something. Hence, for them, they do not know whether things they hear of exist in reality.Advertising Looking for essay on psychology? Let's see if we can help you! Ge t your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More Such is the case because they use the power of imagination through what they feel, smell, hear and taste. Hence, by closing eyes and trying to perform some things, individuals will experience the same and learn to appreciate and help any blind person (Foley p 1). In addition to this, individuals can involve themselves in games that involve blindfolding each other and trying to locate objects or identify other people using their voices. Through failing to execute these duties, individuals will lean the kind of difficulties, which blind people go through, more so when it comes to using their simple Godly given perceptions to make sense of their world. On the other hand, individuals should interact with these blind individuals in order to understand how to manage their lives. This is important, because firsthand experience will make one to hear the reality of things from the â€Å"horse’s mouth†; hence, enhance the devel opment of healthy relationships. Conclusion In conclusion, to â€Å"walk in somebody’s shoes†, individuals must endeavor to involve themselves in activities, which will give them an opportunity of feeling or experiencing what individuals with such disabilities feel. For example, although one cannot fully experience the hardships that are associated with blindness, closing eyes and trying to do their normal duties, one can somewhat feel what it feels like to be blind. The organisations discussed are Toyota Motor Corporation, an automaker giant, and Barclays PLC, a financial services giant. I have discussed competitive priorities, marketing strategy, capacity planning, inventory management, supply chain design, performance measures and total quality management. All these help the organisations gain competitive advantage over other competitors as they focus on different ways to lower the cost of operations and making the best use of the resources by ensuring that all the waste is eliminated. The insight has been provided as to how these goals can be met to achieve the competitive advantage and how the innovation and long term sustainability of the companies can be achieved successfully. Introduction The following article discusses and compares the processes, priorities and strategies used in two huge organisations in different sectors. We would be discussing Barclays PLC and Toyota Motor Corporation. The reason for the discussion of these two companies is that they are well renowned in their respective sectors. Barclays is a global financial services company headquartered in London, United Kingdom. In the 2010 Forbes magazine’s list of world’s leading companies it was ranked 9th largest banking group and 21st largest company worldwide. Toyota is a multinational automaker headquartered in Toyota City, Japan. In 2010 Forbes magazine’s list of world’s leading companies it was ranked 360th, a steep fall from its 3rd ranking in 2009. This was partly because of a major accelerator problem with its cars which forced Toyota to recall millions of cars worldwide and partly because of decline in sales amid the global crisis in automobile industry. Main Body Identifying Different Operations Barclays Being founded in 1690, it now operates in more than 50 countries and employs over 147,500 people. It has over 48 million customers worldwide. It operates in different sectors which include Credit Cards, Retail Banking, Corporate and Investment Banking and Wealth Management. It has a primary listing on London Stock Exchange and a secondary listing on New York Stock Exchange. We will be discussing the retail banking operations of Barclays in this assignment. (Barclays, 2011) Toyota Motor Corporation It was founded on August 28, 1937 and it employs over 320,590 people. Its main business activities are motor vehicle production and sales. It is the world’s largest automobile manufacturer in terms of sales and production. It is a part of Toyota group which in addition to automobile industry also provides financial services and builds robots. In this assignment we will be dealing with the production aspect of Toyota. Competitive Priorities   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚     Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Toyota  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚     Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Barclays Low Cost Present Present Quality Present Absent Flexibility Present Present Time Present Present    Competitive priorities are the critical operational dimensions a process or value chain must possess to satisfy both internal and external customers. Toyota’s main competitive priorities are concerned with its cost, quality and flexibility. Toyota’s low cost operations enable it to produce products at low cost. This helps in setting low costs for customers and earning reasonable profit making the cars more attractive to customers and more competitive in the market. It offers flexibility in its products. It offers a wide range of models targeting a wide customer base ranging from Aygo and iQ for low income families to auris, prius and corolla for medium earners to lexus, land cruisers and camry for high earners. The customers can also design their own cars and can choose what specifications they want in their cars which make them unique to others. It gives the freedom to customers and a sense of power. Toyota maintains a high quality of standard in their production. They treat quality with utmost importance and that’s why when quality is mentioned the name of Toyota springs in to the mind of the customers. This gives Toyota the edge over its competitors. Barclays has a competitive advantage of low cost operations. To gain the benefit from low cost operations over its competitors Barclays has moved its back-office jobs and the call centres to India where cheap labour is available. As India is a IT hub so the cost is also saved by not needing to invest in training and hiring of people. Barclays offers flexibility in its bank accounts. It offers 13 different types of current accounts for the customers to choose from which are in addition to the business accounts, premier accounts and the saving accounts. A wide range of these accounts mean that the customer can evaluate what suits best to their circumstances and is more likely to be choosing it over other accounts. (Current Accounts, 2011) Barclays lacks quality in the customer service. As of September 2010 bank complaints ranking recorded by Financial Services Authority (FSA), Barclays was rated 2nd clocking in 259,266 complaints for the six months period with only Lloyds being the worst. (BBC News, 2010) It tries to serve the customers in time. In September 2010 bank complaints survey it was revealed that 91% of the complaint cases were dealt with by Barclays in the given timeframe of eight weeks. Marketing Strategy  Ã‚   Corporate strategy provides a direction that serves as the framework for carrying out all the organisation’s functions. It specifies the aims the company will pursue and identifies the growth objective.                                                                                                                                                ANSOFF MATRIX    Toyota Toyota has a vision of making cleaner and environment friendly cars. It segments the market according to different regions as well as different people. It aims to target each and every person possible. It has got environment friendly cars e.g. prius for those people who are environment conscious. It targets the middle and low income families with the economy cars and the up market customers with luxury cars. It uses differentiated marketing as it has specified cars in specified markets. The models which it produces and provides in one country are not necessarily present in other countries e.g. it only provides two models in Pakistan whereas in America and Europe it provides loads others. It focuses on what the customers in a specific country are concerned about. In the developed countries who are concerned about environment it provides Prius to attract the customers whereas this car is not present in Pakistan as not a large chunk of people are concerned about eco-friendliness there. Throughout its existence Toyota has adopted all four marketing strategies discussed in Ansoff’s matrix to succeed and become the market leader it has been for so long until the recent accelerator problem occurred with its cars which was disastrous for it. Barclays Barclays is one of the financial industries that have invested heavily in the marketing. It keeps on coming out with different ways to keep itself in the public eye. It’s a main sponsor of different sports including football, tennis, golf, individual sponsorships, and the cycling in London. It is the official partner of one of the biggest football leagues followed in the world known as Barclays Premier League. Barclays has achieved its growth by product development, market development and diversification. It diversified into the new business of cycle hire throughout Central London, United Kingdom. It expands its business by market development by investing in new countries with its banking operations and then by product development by increasing its operations in those countries. It is now operating in more than 50 countries and provides a wide range of services. Barclays also indulges in other marketing activities. In June 2010 it launched an online game, 56 Sage Street, to target young people. It was also supported by activities on Facebook which is the largest social networking website. It has also made advertisements that included waterslide and rollercoaster which are not typical for a financial institution. It takes people by surprise. Capacity Planning Capacity planning deals with setting out future capacity requirements after forecasting the future demands for that period. It’s straightforward to determine capacity requirements when demands for products and services can be forecast with a certain degree of precision. Barclays can also use the Theory of Constraints to identify the bottlenecks e.g. the time the mortgage department takes to process the home-loan application. Once the bottleneck is identified the plans can be made to overcome the bottleneck. The personnel could focus on the bottlenecks to make sure that the resources are being fully utilised. The employees would be properly trained to make sure they fully understand and work to overcome the bottlenecks. Once the time issue has been resolved the bank can start looking for more constraints. Toyota can use the capacity management to match the demand in busy periods. It knows the demand would be more at the start of the year as compared to the year end and much more when a new model is being launched. Past analysis can be used to predict the demands at different times of the year. It can arrange the staff in a way which would not cause any hindrance to its operations and would be able to meet the demand if not over do it. If it’s for a short time period the staff can be asked to do overtime. This might require paying more than the original pay rate but it would eliminate the cost of training, hiring and paying additional benefits. The Theory of Constraints can be used to find out the bottlenecks which limit the production. Different ways of overcoming the constraints can be applied and personnel required to focus on removing the constraints. The employees in that department need to be properly trained to make sure they make the best use of the resources. Once the constraints are removed the company can move on towards identifying other constraints before they arise and cause problems. Inventory Management It is an important concern for managers in all types of businesses to plan and control the inventories in order to meet the competitive priorities of the organisation. Poor inventory management can seriously affect those organisations that operate on low profit margins. Like any other bank Barclays’ only inventory is cash. It needs to be very careful with the inventory management to run the business.   The cash that customers deposit is invested by the banks to earn money. The cash flow per day should be anticipated properly and it should be made sure that sufficient amount of cash is kept in the bank to serve the customers when they come for it. This level should be worked out so that they don’t keep so much cash which could have been invested elsewhere instead of keeping in the safe and hence results in lost value. On the other hand it should not be so less that it results in customers being denied money at any stage. Inventory management plays a very important part in the manufacturing organisations e.g. Toyota. As Toyota deals in lean manufacturing so the inventory level for Toyota is almost zero. Less inventory results in savings as there are no inventory holding costs, cost of capital, storage and handling costs and taxes, insurance and shrinkages. While there are so much savings it is not without risks. The products need to be perfect to keep the process going as with TQM there is no inventory to cover up if something goes wrong. Toyota can keep a safety stock inventory just in case any breakage occurs in the production system.   Performance Measures It is important to see how well the organisation is performing both for the manufacturing and service organisations. Key factors responsible for the success or failure should be noted and if possible the factors responsible for success should be exploited and those of failure minimised if not diminished. Both manufacturing and service industries need to see if the performance measures meet the competitive priorities of the organisation. Key Performance indicators could be set up to see if the performance is up to the mark. Barclays can use this to assess the quality of service provided by the staff. It can be noted by assessing the no. of complaints received in a given time period. The customer satisfaction surveys can also be handed out to customers to see where do they feel the lackings are. The steps can then be taken to overcome those problems. The following KPIs can be used to measure the performance of the organistaions.   Barclays No. of accounts opened No. of home loans approved Staff turnover Customer feedback Share price on Stock exchange Investor returns New products offered Toyota No. of cars produced No. of defects occurred No. of injuries New models introduced Customer interest   Supply Chain Design Supply chains permeate the entire organisation. It is hard to envision a process in a firm that is not in some way affected by a supply chain. The supply chains must be managed to co-ordinate the firm’s inputs with its outputs to achieve the competitive priorities of the firm’s enterprise processes. Supply chains are equally important for both the service as well as manufacturing sector organisations. As a firm grows big it can’t perform all its activities by itself and to gain that competitive advantage it needs to evaluate its options and outsource its less profitable activities or manage close relationships with a few reliable suppliers. As the service sector industries like Barclays are concerned they can outsource quite a few of their operations. India being the hub of call centres for the US and the UK, the call centre of Barclays can be moved there which provides with cheap labour and trained staff. The contract could be given to companies and so Barclays would not need to hire the staff which would save it from paying out fortunes in redundancy costs if it ever needs to finish operations. As the staff would be already trained there would be no training costs and no hiring costs. As Barclays deals with the important personal information of millions of clients it can outsource the delivery of documents to a firm that specialises in the handling of documents and provides a good reliable delivery. It would be cost effective as well as a competitive advantage as customers will see it a trustworthy brand who takes the clients’ security very seriously. For a manufacturing organisation like Toyota, it needs to maintain close relationships with a few suppliers who clearly understand the true meaning of the brand and understand what quality the customers exactly expect of that brand. It should not go for a large number of suppliers who barely understand the brand as Toyota did and what was the first brick laid to the devastation of Toyota which saw millions of cars being recalled worldwide. Maintaining close relationships with a few suppliers instead of going in a large supply chains which include tier-2 and tier-3 help create that special bond. It helps achieve the â€Å"Just in Time† which is only possible through Total Quality Management. All the companies involved in the supply chain need to be closely linked to each other and they should be expecting high quality from each supplier as they all rely on one another to provide the best value product to the customer. Both Toyota and Barclays can outsource their payroll system to a specialist financial firm which would be both cost effective and would also be dealt with the experts. By outsourcing these activities they can focus on more important activities which are the basis of their businesses. Total Quality Management Total Quality Management is a philosophy that aims for achieving high level of process performance and quality. To achieve this it stresses on three principles which are related to employee involvement, customer satisfaction and continuous improvement in performance. Employee Involvement TQM plays an important part in both the manufacturing as well as service sector industries. It emphasises that everyone in the organisation must share the view that he is responsible for the quality of the product. TQM gives rise to effective teamwork which is the basis of quality circles, which became popular in the late 1970s after Japanese used them successfully. In Toyota the employee involvement can be achieved by having quality circles and listening to the concerns of each employee in those teams. Every employee should be encouraged to come up with solutions. Every employee should be given the authority to stop production line as soon as quality problem is spotted. Quality in both the manufacturing and service sector organisations is achieved in different ways. Manufacturing Service 1.Reliability Tangible factors 2.Durability Courtesy 3.Performance Timeliness 4.Features Consistency 5.Serviceability Responsiveness to customer needs 6.Conformance to specifications Atmosphere Continuous improvement Customers today demand and expect high level of quality at a reasonable price. For the companies to survive in the long run they need to make quality in their products a top priority. This can be achieved through Six Sigma principle where the level of defects is reduced to approximately 3.4 parts per million. This in turn saves both time and cost and wins customer loyalty. Barclays can achieve the total quality management in their operations in a number of ways. A timeframe can be set up in which a customer needs to be attended at any cost no matter how long the queues are. The customer needs to be greeted happily at his first contact and should be catered to in an efficient and effective way. Toyota can benefit by reducing the waste and making proper use of the resources. The staff can be trained to use the plan-do-check-act cycle for problem solving. This helps to point out all those activities that don’t add any value to the product and new ways can be found to complete the production cycle in less time and eliminating those activities that don’t add any value to the product. Customer Satisfaction Customers are usually satisfied when their expectations regarding a service or product have been met. They often describe the satisfaction as quality. This can be measured by Barclays in terms of how long it takes for a customer to be served after he entered the front door. The time should be set in which a customer needs to be served in the best possible way. The calls should be answered in a given time and staff should be properly trained to answer the queries. The atmosphere of the branch and the appearance of the staff members should be given importance to. Toyota can make sure its customers are satisfied by making the cars of excellent quality in lowest possible cost to the customer. Quality should be inspected at every stage. Any defects would delay the entire process and hence delay the delivery to customer leading to the unsatisfied customer. The good quality would mean less wear n tear resulting in less warranty claims and a satisfied customer. Evaluation of the operational concepts of Barclays and TMC a) Capacity Planning Barclays The capacity planning would help Barclays as it would be able to anticipate demand and make sure it has got the right resources to meet any variations in demand. The demand variations could be studied using the past analysis and extra staff could be made available at busy times of the day or the year. The competitive advantage could be achieved by making sure that all the customers are properly attended and less staff made available at less busier times. The sustainable advantage could also be achieved by making best use of the resources in the most effective way. Toyota The capacity planning would help Toyota anticipate what model’s demand is going to be more as compared to the others. More emphasis could be laid on producing those cars whose demand is more and less production for the cars whose demand is comparatively less. This would help gain competitive advantage as producing the right amount of cars would save costs and no stock would need to stored. Sustainability in the long run can be achieved due to the economies of scale achieved. b) Inventory Management Barclays The inventory management would help Barclays keep sufficient cash to keep its process working and at the same time investing it somewhere else to gain higher returns. The competitive advantage will be achieved by making the best use of the cash and gaining the maximum possible return out of it. This would help in long term sustainability of Barclays. Toyota The inventory management would mean keeping less stock and hence resulting in almost zero stockholding costs, insurance and tax. The space would also be free and hence used for other purposes. Maintaining safety stock would help them if they face problem at any point in time with the inventory or to meet an unexpected increase in demand. This all would result in cost savings and hence provide a competitive advantage. C) Supply Chain design Barclays As Barclays has already outsourced its back office and call centres to India which is a hub of call centres and a greater awareness of IT so it gives it a competitive advantage above those competitors whose call centres are UK based because there is cheap labour available in India. Above that there are no hiring and training costs to be incurred. Innovation can also be achieved because when talent is pooled together from bright people in different parts of the world many new things are discovered which would not have been possible otherwise. This also helps with the long term sustainability. Toyota The supply chain design for Toyota would mean having close contact with a few suppliers who best understand the culture of the company. This would mean a greater understanding of what product is required and what quality is desired. The competitive advantage would be achieved because of close relationship. Discussion between the supplier and enterprise would also lead to innovation. This would also help with the long term sustainability of the company d) Performance Measures Barclays The overall performance of the operations can be measured by KPIs or Balanced Scorecard. It can be found out that equal importance is given to all the four perspectives which are customer, financial, learning growth and internal business process perspective. This would help achieve the competitive advantage and would also help in the long term sustainability. Toyota Toyota can measure the performance of its operations by setting up benchmarks and comparing the actual performance with the benchmarks. Reasons for not matching up with the benchmarks could be looked and proper measures could be put in place to meet up with the standards. This would help achieve competitive advantage and also help in long term sustainability. e) Total Quality Management Barclays Barclays could use TQM to make sure all the resources available to it are properly used and given importance to. All employees work to the full of their potential and customers are given the best service possible. This would help Barclays gain competitive advantage over other competitors and also help in the long term sustainability. It would also help in the innovation. Toyota The lean production system adopted by Toyota eliminates its waste totally and helps achieve low production costs. This gives it a competitive advantage over other competitors. Competitive advantage could be achieved by saving costs and resources and sustainability in the long run can be achieved. Conclusion Operations management is very important for an organisation as operations are at the heart of the overall success or failure of the company. The topics discussed in this assignment for managing operations are capacity planning, inventory management, supply chain design, performance measures and total quality management. The companies under discussion here are Barclays and Toyota. Overall, Toyota is more cost effective and it pays great emphasis on lean manufacturing and JIT which is the key to effective use of the resources and cost reduction.   Bibliography referenceforbusiness.com/management/Bun-Comp/Capacity-Planning.html (accessed on 16-03-11) http://search.japantimes.co.jp/cgi-bin/nb20100423a3.html (accessed on 14-03-11) referenceforbusiness.com/history2/55/Barclays-Plc.html (accessed on 15-03-11) wiley.com/college/sc/reid/chap5.pdf (accessed on 12-03-11) industryweek.com/articles/learning_from_toyota__again_11301.aspx (accessed on 13-03-11) msnbc.msn.com/id/33077383/ns/business-autos   (accessed on 13-03-11) economist.com/node/15576506 (accessed on 17-03-11) Banking and the Theory of Constraints(TOC). The Best Small Colleges in the United States SAT / ACT Prep Online Guides and Tips If you’re interested in attending a small college, you may be wondering which schools offer the most rigorous academic experience combined with the best quality of life. In this article, I’ll give you a list of the best small colleges in the nation based on student reviews and academic ratings. What Is a Small College? For the purposes of this article, I’ll define â€Å"small† colleges as colleges with undergraduate student enrollments below 5,000.These colleges are characterized by small class sizes, close student communities, and professors who engage directly with students.Attending a small college is sort of like being a part of a big family that's brought together through shared experiences and pride in the school. You can expect to see familiar faces everywhere you go and will most likely have many opportunities to take on leadership positions and get involved in campus culture. What Do I Mean By the â€Å"Best† Small Colleges? To make a decision about which small colleges are the best in the nation, I used the information available in the 2015 Fiske Guide to Colleges as well as college rankings from Forbes and US News.I paid particular attention to overall ratings for academics, social scene, and quality of life.In the Fiske Guide to Colleges, all of these schoolswere rated at least 4.5/5 for academics. I considered the academic ratings the most strongly, but I also took the other ratings into account to choose the colleges with the best overall student experiences.I tried to pick colleges that were among the best in the country for academics but also had thriving social scenes and happy, engaged students. All of these schools have excellent programs for undergraduate teaching with small classes and hands-on professors who are dedicated to the success of their students. They also have highly intellectual students who are passionate about learning and making positive changes in the campus community and the world at large. These are schools you should attend if you want to be motivated and challenged by your professors and fellow students in a close-knit, constantly evolving community. Law for Managers- Lifting the Corporate Veil Essay

Law for Managers- Lifting the Corporate Veil - Essay Example This essay talks about an association of persons or an organised body can acquire legal personality in the few ways that are recognised by the law. There are mainly three ways in which this can be effected and these are: by way of separate Act, general enabling Act or by conduct. Legal personality can be acquired by virtue of separate Act obtaining within a particular legal framework of a given country or in terms of a general enabling Act such as the Companies Act which is used in many countries. This is modelled under the English common law. Many of the English common law of companies were readily accepted by different countries which adopted this form of law as their guiding principle in the legal framework and these were also accepted by the courts with little or no modification. It can also be seen that an association of 20 persons can also acquire legal personality by conducting itself as a legal person in compliance of certain requirements. On its formation, the company as a s eparate entity acquires the capacity to have its own rights and duties. Once the company has been incorporated, it can be treated as an independent person with rights and liabilities that are appropriate to itself. The brief facts of the leading case were as follows: Salomon was the sole proprietor of the prosperous company and he decided to turn the business into a limited company after realising its great potential. Salomon received  £10 000 in debentures from shareholders which were secured by a bond of the company’s assets. ... The brief facts of the leading case were as follows: Salomon was the sole proprietor of the prosperous company and he decided to turn the business into a limited company after realising its great potential. Salomon received ?10  000 in debentures from shareholders which were secured by a bond of the company’s assets. However, the company faced a downturn of events and had to be liquidated through the sale of the assets. The sale of assets was far short to cover the debentures whereby the liquidator suggested that creditors had to be paid first before the debentures. Thus, the shareholders were left in the cold. Apparently, the court ruled in favour of Salomon on the reasonable ground that the company was just like Salomon. It was treated as an individual person. This given scenario aptly illustrates the magnitude to which this the concept of legal personality has come under criticism for shielding the erring company directors. Though it is generally accepted that upon incorp oration, the company comes into existence as a separate entity, many divergent views have emerged which challenges the legality of this particular concept in as far as the operations of a particular company are concerned. Strydom (2007) posits to the effect that this legal provision gives more power to the directors and at times it often disadvantages the unsuspecting shareholders of that particular company. Given such a scenario, it can be noted that some directors can take advantage of this unfavourable balance in the law which can result in losses being incurred by other people. In as far as fraud is not suspected in the demise of the company, the court can rule in favour of the director since he or she can be treated just like an individual person. The company is protected as

Compare-and-Contrast Research Paper Essay Example for Free

Compare-and-Contrast Research Paper Essay Introduction Present essay seeks to provide the comparative analysis of two artworks – Hoffmann’s Boston Twilight, 1957, belonging to Proto-Abstract Expressionism and Rauschenberg’s Retroactive 1, 1964, which may be attributed to the art movement of Pop-Art. The comparative analysis of these paintings will focus on two crucial aspects – structural and positive. Structural analysis addresses cultural, historical context, which influenced the discussed artworks, political climate, art movements’ stylistic characteristics, which informed individual work of artists, their subjective motives, influences and inclinations. Secondly, positive analysis of the artworks focuses on the themes depicted, colors and techniques used, formal and stylistic elements, the reflection of cultural and historical context in the artworks etc. The thesis, present paper defends, may be formulated as follows: Hoffmann’s and Rauschenberg’s artworks were significantly influenced by historical, cultural, social and artistic context. The artistic response to these contexts was different and reflected through opposite art movements. The discussed images belong to different artistic traditions and, hence have many differences. Similarities, however, may be attributed to the similar artistic influences, and utilization of sometimes similar formal and color techniques of composition. Structural context: art movements, history, politics and subjective perspectives. The general socio-economic and historical context of both artworks (as they were created very close in time – 1957 and 1964) may be characterized by the gradual assault of mass consumption postmodernist society, which influenced the rapid development of popular culture in music, entertainment and cinema. Commoditization has reached almost every sphere of social life and closely approached art through mass media. The increasing role of mass culture was immediately seen in the new sphere of advertisement, which conflated the elements of ‘high and low’ culture, which became central to the new postmodernist cultural logic (Jameson, 59). Political situation in the United States and Europe was characterized by the intensification of resistance and leftist movements, which, however, abandoned communist platform and focused on new postmodernist tactics, such as situationism, counter-culturalism, influenced by new discoveries in psychoanalysis, philosophy etc. Politics also became the element of mass culture, as its reproduction was extended from closed couloirs of high cabinets to ordinary population. The response of art movements to the assault of the postindustrial society was irregular and significantly varied from one art movement to another. The dominance of non-objective abstraction in 1940s and 50s was the response to vulgarization of social life, and the manifest of the absence of valuable objective themes in de-humanized world. Abstractionism, hence was an artistic expression of de-humanization and the search for lost subjectivity (Herskovic, 13-17). However, other extremes also came to existence. That is particularly true of the Pop-Art, which positively responded to the modern developments in economy and culture, synthesizing popular culture in the new form of art. Pop-Art was characterized by ‘externalization’ of art, as the objects of ordinary life and advertisement were widely utilized. The later was particularly evident in the works of Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein and James Rosenquist. The similar response to changing conditions in society was made by photorealism, which exemplifies the assault of hyperrealism as the new form of cultural affirmation. Such elements of modern society as standardization, de-subjectivization was immediately seen in Pop-Art , which appeared as the resistance to self-revelation, artistic creativity and originality and focuses on the widely acknowledge cultural codes and images (Harrison 2001) . Robert Rauschenberg’s and Hans Hoffmann’s artistic trajectories were significantly influenced by the discussed developments in politics and ideology. Rauschenberg was, for instance, one of the forerunners of pop-art movement, as he was among the first to use hand-made or found objects in his artworks, combining the elements of high and low culture, using mass-media sources etc (Livingstone, 1990). Such experiments were influenced by Rauschenberg’s strong belief that the genuine artwork should exist between art and life. The technique of ‘combines’ used by Rauschenberg may be described as immediate precursor to postmodernist collage, used in installation art. Rauschenberg’s mindset position deeply opposed Abstract Expressionism’s argument that the self may be expressed through art. Instead, Rauschenberg focused on representation of reality in its absence of structure, sense and single interpretation. Abstract-Expressionism, which was influenced by Hans Hoffman, in contrast focused on gesture paintings and color field painting techniques. Abstract Expressionism should be understood as a historical consequence of the conflation between European and American artists due to World War 2, which forced may French, German and other artists to immigrate in the United States. Hans Hoffmann belongs to this group of artists and his destiny significantly influenced his style and ideological orientations (Herskovic, 2003). Hoffman’s style was influenced by cubist tension between depth and surface, expressionistic flamboyance of color and surrealist technique of automatism, which is based on following subconscious drivers of creativity and libidinal forces. The latter influences were synthesized by Hoffmann in his ‘push-pull’ method, which included the use of expressive colors and paint slashes in the view of creating contradiction between cool and warm colors. Comparative analysis of Hoffmann’s and Rauschenberg’s artworks Both artworks are obviously affected by different artistic movements and styles. Hoffmann’s composition may be posited within abstract expressionism tradition, while Rauschenberg’s painting belongs to Pop-Art movement. On the surface level the similarities between these artistic may be traced in the color usage – in each painting we see the utilization of yellow, green, black, white, red, white and blue colors. Moreover, the presence of grid-like rectangular layout is evident. Apart from this, both paintings are characterized by the sense of distortion. The distortion in Hoffmann’s artwork Boston Twilight is due to the use of abstract expressionist style, which distorts the contours of objective reality, so that we can not find correspondence between the image and reality (Boston Twilight) that it signifies. However, in Rauschenberg’s composition the distortion is reflected in the plurality of meaning and signification. The interpretation is difficult to realize due to the combination of images inserted in the painting: J. F. Kennedy at the center, pointing with his finger, cosmonaut with parachute, the duplication of Kennedy’s hand in the right corner and evidently abstract images in other parts. There is no denying the importance of the fact, that such a ‘combine’ creates difficulties for interpretation and distorts it. Furthermore, it should be pointed to the fact that both artworks have the elements of abstraction, contrasting color tones and are influenced by Cubism in using facets of the color. Both paintings create the feeling of collage and it was noted that Rauschenberg’s ‘combine’ technique is very close to it. Moreover, creating certain color relationships is in important in both images, however, it serves different functions, depending on style and thematic unity. Differences between images are evident in many respects. First of all, art schools are opposite with pop-art, focusing on unification of art and reality, and abstract expressionism, focusing on expressing contradictory being of individual self. Hoffman’s painting is abstract in essence, while Rauschenberg’s refers to widely known political and social images of American President, cosmonaut, which immediately signify objective reality. The social and political thematic of Rauschenberg’s image immediately points to his belonging to Pop-Art tradition. As far as formal and color structure of the analyzed paintings are concerned blue is dominant in Rauschenberg’s image, while green is dominant in Hoffman’s paintings; the first artist uses vertical stress, while Hoffmann is evidently using horizontal stress. Due to stylistic differences between artworjs, colors mix into one another in Hoffmann’s painting and are separated in Rauschenberg’s one. Rauschenberg utilizes much more contrast, than Hoffmann, however the image of the latter is much more organic in contrast to geometric structure of Rauschenberg’s composition. Conclusion To sum it up, present analysis proved the initial thesis that both artworks were significantly influenced by historical, social and cultural developments in Western societies in the middle of 20-th century. These developments provoked different responses on the part of art movements, resulting in creation of different styles and techniques. The latter are reflected in Hoffmann’s and Rauschenberg’s compositions, which are different in many important stylistic respects, however, have much in common due to the same artistic influences. My interest to the discussed paintings is explained by the fact that they are picturesque representations of Abstract Expressionism and Pop Art. Main features, peculiar to each of these styles, may be found in these paintings both in complex and in separate elements. The techniques used by both artists help us better understand other artworks created in these traditions and inform our own artistic endeavors. Hoffman’s image advantage is in its direct appeal to aesthetic taste and sensibility, while Rauschenberg artwork represents a challenge for viewers in terms of interpreting its political and social content. The Chechen Wars Essay -- Islam in the North Caucasus 2014

From Western audiences, Chechnya—whether as an autonomous oblast, a sovereign state, or a war zone—has never received much consideration. Just one of dozens of ethnic groups within Russia who have declared since the end of the Soviet Union their right to self-rule and self-determination, the Chechens’ struggle for independence was drowned out in the cacophony of calls for independence during the 1990s. However, in a world so greatly affected by the events of September 11, 2001 and given the role of Chechen separatist groups in bombings of Russian apartment buildings in 1999 (which killed more than 300) and the hostage-taking of a Russian theater in 2002 (which resulted in the deaths of 130 Russians and 30 rebels), the rhetoric of Islamic fundamentalism and the terminology of terrorism has brought the Chechen people to the forefront of international concern (Trenin & Malashenko, 2004, p. 45). Yet the roots of the conflict in Chechnya, which have spurned two wa rs with the Russian Federation over the past two decades, are defined neither by terrorist activities or the Islamists who have recently come to typify the most virulent of the separatist rebels; rather, the origin is in the centuries long forging of a group that has faced common persecution from the Russian Empire, the Soviet Union, and the Russian Federation. Ethnicity compounded with a new emphasis on fundamentalist religious ideology has greatly complicated a struggle that has benefited the economic and political interests of groups as disparate as elected officials, crime bosses, business leaders, and international governments (Politkovskaya, 2003). War has wrought the economic and social collapse of Chechnya and simultaneously embarrassed a Russia giant whose parti... ...thcaucasus.pdf Jaimoukha, A. (2005) The Chechens: A Handbook. Healthy Habits

There just doesn’t seem to be enough hours in the day to accomplish everything you need to do. And it can feel like an added stressor when you are trying to integrate healthy habits into your already hectic schedule. But if you make time for healthy habits, you’ll find yourself with extra reserves of energy that will lower your stress and help you get through life’s challenges. Here are a few things you can start doing right now to make healthy habits a relatively painless part of your routine: Drink water throughout the day.You don’t hear this nearly enough: water is an all-purpose wonder-substance. It’s great for your skin, your digestive system, and circulatory system, and aids in weight loss and cellulite reduction. If you feel fatigued during the day, it’s often because you aren’t hydrated properly. Drink water throughout the day, sipping from a large bottle or glass. If you have it nearby, it’s easy to remember. If you don ’t like the â€Å"taste† of water, keep a supply of lemon so that you can add a slice to your water – it cuts any bitterness, adds a bit of vitamin C and makes it taste more festive!Cut back on the amount of soda and coffee you drink. Sugar and caffeine dehydrate you and create energy rushes followed by crashes, which are ultimately energy-depleting. Substitute with drinks like green tea or 100% fruit juice. Replace high-sugar foods with low-sugar versions. Cutting back on the amount of refined sugar you consume helps reduce calories and weight gain and also helps you avoid the energy slumps that come from sugar withdrawal. Items high in refined sugar include most soft drinks, cereals, baked goods, and of course, candy and ice cream.Look for low-sugar or no-sugar versions of these, or simply opt for healthy snacks instead. Stock up on healthy, portable snacks. When you are grocery shopping, pick up bags of baby carrots, string cheese, nuts, fresh and dried fruit , single serving packs of applesauce, yogurt, wholegrain crackers, peanut butter, turkey jerky, etc. Having healthy portable snacks around will help you avoid bad vending-machine, convenience store and fast-food options. Read some more portable snack ideas. Take the time to plan healthy meals for the week. Spend 15 minutes or so to map out your meals. Keep it simple. Then, when you shop for groceries, make your purchases based on the meals you will make during the week. This will help you avoid relying on less healthy take-out or fast food choices. Learn even more grocery store tips. Purchase frozen, ready-to-cook ingredients. Frozen fruits and vegetables have high vitamin and mineral content because they don’t sit around losing these nutrients for long before they are preserved. Although you’ll want to keep plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables around, it’s great to have frozen produce available for quick meal additions and smaller servings. Also, some grocery st ores offer frozen boneless chicken breasts and a wide variety of seafood items in re-sealable packages. These are great for quick, healthy meals. Pack your lunch the night before. You'll have given yourself the gift of extra time in the morning and you will assure that you have a healthy meal during the day. Don’t forget to pack snack items so you can avoid the vending machine. Cook double batches of whatever you’re cooking. When you prepare dinner, especially on weekends, cook extra and freeze to use for another dinner or lunch. Then, you'll have a healthy meal ready to go when you are. Give yourself some slack. If you are stressed out about preparing healthy meals every day, use what some experts call the â€Å"80/20† rule in your eating. If 80 percent of what you eat is healthy, then allow yourself to take it a little easier for the remaining 20 percent. You and your diet will survive. Fit in exercise whenever you can. Experts recommend that adults exercise a minimum of 30 minutes three times per week. Aim for this amount, but don’t kick yourself if you can’t meet this goal. Any amount of exercise is better than none.No time to go to a gym? Build a stock of exercise tapes – many have routines that you can complete in 20-40 minutes. Use hand weights or do crunches, leg-lifts and lunges while watching television. Or invest in an exercise bike – you can pedal while catching up on your reading. Think of what would be most interesting to you and what best fits your schedule and budget. Take a walk break during the day. Even 20 minutes can make a difference in your energy level, plus it gives you time to clear your head. If you walk with a friend or colleague, it also gives you time to socialize.Whenever possible, walk. Increase the amount of time you can walk, versus sit or drive. It doesn’t take that much extra time to park a bit farther from the store entrance, or to make a personal visit to a colleague ra ther than phoning, instant messaging or e-mailing. Get enough sleep. Even if you gain more time in your day by cutting back on sleep, you will be less effective throughout the day, as your energy level and cognitive functioning will be reduced. Insufficient sleep also makes you more susceptible to illness. By getting enough sleep, you become more efficient during the time you are awake.

Hardware Components Essay

There are several types of hardware storage devices invented and designed to facilitate encoded and retrieved data storage in computers. Some of the examples of these storage devices include the ff. : the hard disk, floppy disk, RAM, CD ROM, and tape. Furthermore, these storage devices together with hardware component of clock speed play their distinct roles to determine the speed and speed rate of a computer (MSD, 2006). Body First, introduced in 1956 and developed during 1973, by the IBM company, the hard disk, or â€Å"hard disk drive† as mentioned, is one example of a stable and reliable secondary hardware storage device that efficiently facilitates speed. It functions as some kind of an optimal and purposeful storeroom which saves accumulated and encoded numeric and digital data, and it is also appropriate for running application programs on spinning magnet-plated platters that is performed by execution and command by the user. Hard disk drives were created for personal computer usage. It has features like audio playing, video gaming, video recording, etc (MSD, 2006). Second, the role of hard disks in determining the speed of a computer is very significant because with the use of hard disk, it can makes the access of files easier and faster as it runs or rotates. The bigger the platters or dishes used by the hard disk to run, the faster its speed and the smaller the platters, the lower the capacity of the computer to run, work, or access files faster. The number of disks in a specific computer may vary at a minimum number of 3 disks to a maximum number of 5 running disks revolving 60 per second. Most hard disk drives make use of removable cartridges while some do not. Most people create back up from the files they saved from the disk since the recent hard disk is created with such a sensitive feature. It can store data from 20 M up to 40 M (MSD, 2006). Third, a floppy disk coming in two sizes: 5 ? and 3 ? inches, is a detachable or unfixed storage device which is already obsolete. It is secondary as compared to the huge capacity of hard disk when it comes to data storage memory. The uses of floppy disks though, become popular for it is much cheaper than the cost of a hard disk. Moreover, it is more convenient to carry floppy disks wherever you go and save data for the use of backup purposes. Moreover, floppy disks make use of the delicate, magnetic and bendable disk which is film-like in color and enclosed in a protective plastic shield or case. The roles of floppy disks portray no role in determining the speed of a computer—speed is determined by the Central Processing unit and its memory rather. For practical reasons, hard disks are favored over floppy disks especially when the cost of the first (hard disks) becomes more inexpensive than the latter. Further, floppy disks are really essentially slower and more sensitive than hard disk that is why it is more prone to damage (MSD, 2006). Fourth, random access memory (RAM) is the primarily appropriate for storage of data that occurs in the computer’s memory and is stored directly at the computer’s Central Processing Unit (CPU). The two types of RAM are the SRAM and the DRAM. SRAM stands for Static RAM and the latter meaning, Dynamic RAM (DRAM). With the use of RAM, user can program the CPU to read, write, and locate data. The role of RAM is to carry out and execute calculations at high speed which is made possible by the said feature of RAM or computer memory that operates random to locate items or applications in the computer system (MC, 2008). Fifth, with the use of compact disks, the CD-ROM operates and exemplifies the use of read-only memory for sharing and sending applications like music files, games, and other multimedia files and desktop applications. The capacity of CD-ROM when it comes to data storage is up to 650 M. Recently, CD-ROMs tend to be much cheaper than other storage devices. CD-ROM is appropriate for expansion of one’s personalized computer system. In addition, CD-ROM does not play a role in determining the speed of a computer. In fact, user retrieves data slower than any other available data computer storage device in the market if the computer is not supported by CD-ROM’s â€Å"data transfer speed (MSD, 2006). † Sixth, tape is a thin strip of plastic, magnetic coated device used mainly for recording and it is known to be appropriate for secondary data storage or backup. Moreover, this tape is most appropriate for the purpose of calculations or â€Å"personal computing. † There is a no role that a tape plays in order to determine speed in a particular computer; further, data access is slower than expected together with its inconvenience for the required retrieval of data in orderly and chronological manner (MSD, 2006). Lastly, clock speed—as measured in megahertz (MHz), is the â€Å"speed of the internal clock of microprocessor. † Clock speed is appropriate for functioning in operation in the internal processing of a computer. The clock speed plays an important role in determining the speed of a computer and it affects the overall performance of the computer (MSD, 2006). Conclusion Several types of hardware storage devices are invented for data storage in computers: the hard disk, floppy disk, RAM, CD ROM, and tape. All mediums except for the floppy disks, CD-ROM, and tape play a role in determining the speed of a computer. These devices except for the other three are hardware components that determine the speed and performance of a computer.

DO I HATE OR LOVE YOU essays

DO I HATE OR LOVE YOU essays Why is it that you leave me feeling so alone and confused? All I want in our relationship is a feeling of love, but something keeps me coming back to you. Maybe it's your smile that keeps me from saying we're through. Or maybe your eyes that I just fall into. Maybe it's the sweet words you claim you mean. I don't think you mean them, from what I've seen. It's hard to understand why you hurt me when you say you love me. I wish you would show me you want to be with me. When I think of you, I think I hate you. When I hear your voice, I can't feel any way other than I love you. Please, just give me a sign you're still there. Just, please, show me you really care, Because right now I'm feeling low and alone. I wanted to slowly give you my heart and my soul. But, you stole my heart and my soul whole. You left no love for me to love others with. You are the only one I love and want to be with. Just, please, show me you want to be with me, too. For I know what I feel and I feel that I love you. An Overview Of The Body Shop Marketing Essay

An Overview Of The Body Shop Marketing Essay Introduction Background The Body Shop it has more than 2070 tree brands and offer service for 7700.000 consumers all over the world. The founder was a great woman who was called Anita Ruddick. She travelled though South America in two years. Then she collected her experience in her long journey and found that many women used the natural way to keep their skin. She also was interested in this field. She tried to use the vegetable, fruit or plant to concoct the natural formula. In March 1976, the Ruddick founded her first store at Birmingham; the store sold 15 kinds of products such as jojoba oil, rascal and mud. In April 1984, The BODYSHOP became a listed company and started selling the products to all over the world. The BODYSHOP was a business which has conscience and credit. The BODYSHOP has five principles in its retail and production, they are: Against Animal Testing (The BODYSHOP never do the animal testing, they only used the scientific instruments to do testing on some mode led body of animal.(Ruth,2006) Support Community Trade (the BODYSHOP selling the product at reasonable price. The BODYSHOP brought their resources from some special place such as Brazil, Kenya, and Samoa. They often set up the factory in origin and employed local people who need a job to save their life. It also brought their materials in a fair price. The BODYSHOP helped a lot of people. It also can say it is a charity (Ruth, 2006). Improve Self Esteem (In the advertisement of The BODYSHOP, It is difficult to see models who have beautiful face and thin stature. The Body Shop uses some ‘special’ woman. For example, the advertisement of the total energy pulse point it employed a black lady. Defend Human Right (The BODYSHOP support equality. especially between black and white. The Body Shop made great contribution in support ECPAT(The International Campaign to End Child Prostitution in Asian Tourism) Protect the Plant (Protect plant is an aim of this green company . The BODYSHOP published a book, called the Green Book in order to call all the people to protect the plants. Theories Marketing Mix: Marketing Mix was related to a company’s marketing strategy. Marketing mix include 4 parts, place, promotion, price and product. There are often called the four ‘PHS. Product: Paying attention to the features of the product is easier to attract the consumers. Some consumers focus on the after sales service, appearance, packing faction and brand more than before. For example, red is standing for lucky in china. This color always appears in spring festival. Consumers who want to buy some clothes during spring festival think this color may bring lucky for them, so they may willing chose this red clothes more than the other color. Some telephone firm willing offer sales service to consumers to create their credit. Price: Make high profit is the aim of the all the businessman. There are many factors effect the price, such as cost, rent, and capital. These factors affect the producer to adjust the product’s price. The price also affects the consumers. For example, customers attract by discount.

Costing, Budgeting for Projects Accounting Essay

Costing, Budgeting for Projects Accounting - Essay Example 9018088 0.000842049 12 8 13 9 7.703656443 1.680506618 13 9 14 7 7.414185094 0.171549292 14 7 15 4.791208791 44.00883114 -1.008791209 19.92307692 0.247845443 2.110327908 0.57993311 3.738278384 16.56687898 12 231.5175824 167.6967033 Estimating Learning-Curve Functions 2 2) I used the formula approach and forecast approach to estimate non-linear functions such as the learning-curve function. The predicted value for 15 units is 4.791209. Note: When I used the forecast approach, either there was an error in the formula or the predicted value is wrong. The formula on p.209 is =FORECAST(15,B1:B14,A1:A14), but I came up with a predicted value of 4.32967. But since I must arrive at the value 4.791209, I figured the formula should’ve been =FORECAST(15,B2:B15,A2:A15). I finally succeeded at having the same value 4.791209. I think my formula is more accurate because for 14 units of outputs, the DLH value is already given with a value of 7. The formula for regression analysis is Y = a + bX where a is the constant term and b is the slope. When estimating LCR, I used Solver routine in Excel. I started with an estimated LCR of .80 and entered that figure in cell D2. For getting the predicted DLHs, I used Excel learning-curve formula which is =$B$2*A2^(LN($D$2)/LN(2)). For unit 1 (X), the predicted value is an exact match. It is the same as the actual DLH, 29. The rest of the predicted DLHs for outputs 2-14 were a close match except for 9 and 11 units (in thousands) of outputs. Next, I calculated the â€Å"squared-error.† The obvious answer is 0, since there is no error. The predicted DLH is exactly the same as the actual DLH. The formula for â€Å"squared-error† in Excel is =(C2-B2)^2 for 1 unit (in thousands). The rest can be calculated in Solver routine by dragging the cells when copying the formula for 1 unit of output. Estimating Learning-Curve Functions 3 3) Shown on the graph with the downward slope, as the total outputs increased, the cumulative uni ts produced decreased. In other words, the more experience there is in producing outputs, the amount of time to perform the task decreases. The plot is consistent with the data given for units produced and DLHs. 4) I estimated the LCR with the â€Å"incremental unit-time learning-curve model† using Solver routine and I arrived at 0.69 or .70. In the Solver routine window, I entered the â€Å"target cell† as $E$2 which is the â€Å"squared error† contained in E2 and the â€Å"changing cell† as $D$2 which is the Estimating Learning-Curve Functions 4 LCR contained in D2. The exponent in learning-curve model, b, is -0.51681. So for DLH 29, the incremental unit-time learning-curve model is Y = 29.0*X^-0.51681. 5) The formula for cumulative average time per unit to produce x units is Y = ax^b; where Y = cumulative average time per unit to produce x units, a = the time taken for the first unit of output, x = the cumulative number of units, and b = the index of l earning (log LR/log 2). Using the calculation in Excel spreadsheet, I entered the formula =$B$2*A2^(Ln($D2$/Ln(2)) for cumulative av
